With three big days of York upon us we’ve got our best bet for each day of the meeting to hopefully land you a winner.
Whilst John Gosden and Frankie should be winning the feature race the Musidora for a third straight year at 4/9 it’s not a race to be getting stuck in unless you have really deep pockets. As such the other feature race is where my attention is turned for the Duke Of York Stakes and last year’s victor Magical Memory. Trainer Charlie Hills was very sweet on his stable star when speaking to Coral Champions Club last week with signs that a recent racecourse gallop has put him A1 to win the race for a 2nd time.
The big Derby trial The Dante tops the bill on Thursday and this could be really special renewal with Epsom scorer Cracksman looking to emulate Golden Horn and Sir Michael Stoute’s big Derby gamble Crystal Ocean doing battle plus Godolphin likely to be throwing four at the race. Saying this, I can see a huge upset here with Forest Ranger for Richard Fahey causing it. A ready winner of a big pot at Newcastle on Good Friday, the step up in trip should be in his favour, ground will also be a plus and connections wouldn’t see this as a fluke should he be good enough.
Trying to nail down a horse that is actually going to run is half the battle at this stage. One that should stand her ground is Roger Varian’s Tomyris in the 2.55. Her first run this season showed she had progressed a lot over the winter when winning well at Newmarket. She still showed a lot of inexperience that day suggesting there’s still tonnes of improvement to come. Dancing Breeze is the obvious danger but at double the price a chance is worth taking with Tomyris.
